AUTOPSY REPORT: BRAZOS CO. INMATE DIED OF DRUG OVERDOSE

The death of a Brazos County Jail inmate was caused by an overdose of drugs, according to an autopsy report.

39-year-old Johnny Dewayne Hall, of Bryan, died in the jail after being arrested on February 15th.

The Travis County Medical Examiner issued the final autopsy report on Tuesday. The report indicated that Hall died accidentally from acute cocaine toxicity. No signs of injury or trauma were found during the examination.

According to authorities, Hall refused to stop for police after running a stop sign. A pursuit ensued and officers saw Hall throw something out of his vehicle. A baggie was later found on the side of the roadway.

Police checked Hall’s mouth to see if there were any signs that he consumed the contents of the bag, but they didn’t see anything that indicated it. Jail staff notice he was disoriented and he was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital, where he died.

When the Sheriff’s Office internal and independent investigations are completed, a final report will be provided to the Texas Attorney General.
