BARNES-TILLEY ACCEPTED TO HARVARD LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Dr. Mary Barnes-Tilley is one of 100 administrators selected from applicants across the world
A Blinn College administrator is headed to one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Dr. Mary Barnes-Tilley, an assistant instructional dean and 21-year veteran government professor, was recently accepted to Harvard University’s competitive Institute for Management and Leadership in Education (MLE), designed for experienced administrators who are responsible for thinking strategically about their institutions’ agendas in the midst of change.
The two-week summer program challenges provosts, vice presidents and deans to master new approaches to leadership, develop and implement effective strategies, and realign faculty and financial resources to overcome the challenges of organizational change.
The 2016 MLE cohort includes approximately 100 participants from a range of institutions, both public and private, including large research universities, regional comprehensive institutions, small liberal arts colleges and community colleges from across the U.S. and abroad. The group encompasses a wide array of managerial backgrounds, from academic affairs, student services, finance and administration, institutional advancement, enrollment management and more.
“I am honored to have been selected,” Barnes-Tilley said. “When a wide range of individuals from different backgrounds come together, they all bring something to the conversation. I’m looking forward to learning from others, as well as sharing my experiences.”
Barnes-Tilley is the assistant instructional dean for Blinn’s Division of Social Sciences, and served as division chair for 11 years. She has served as advisor for the Blinn-Brenham campus Student Government Association for 18 years, and in March was named the Texas Junior College Student Government Association Region IV SGA advisor of the year.
Barnes-Tilley earned her Associate of Arts from Blinn in 1993 before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in government in 1995. She earned her master’s degree from Sam Houston State University in 1997 and her Doctor of Philosophy in political science from Texas A&M University in 2011.

Well, this comes as no surprise. Dr. Barnes-Tilley should win Blinn administrator of the year award because she thinks well on her feet, makes good decision, and deals with students, parents, and her faculty in a respectful, HONEST way. And she’s a good teacher.
