BASTROP FIRE BURNS 4,500 ACRES, ONLY 25 PERCENT CONTAINED

The Hidden Pines fire that has burned approximately 4,582 acres and destroyed forty structures as of Friday morning, may have been caused by a farming shredder, according to Bastrop County officials.

Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape said a “farming accident” by a shredder, which is a similar to a large lawn mower, may have caused the fire.

The fire, which began on Tuesday, has hampered firefighters with low humidity and windy conditions.

Officials also said a shift in wind direction appears to be causing some problems in fighting the Hidden Pines fire near Smithville.

The firefighters may get some help coming next week. Beginning on Tuesday, the outlook for rain is increasing, and by Thursday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain, according to the weather service.
