BELLVILLE SCHOOL BOARD REVIEWS STAAR TEST RESULTS

STAAR is the newest required testing for public school students in the state of Texas.

Although Bellville students scored better than the state average in almost all of the categories, Deputy Superintendent Kenneth Stein told school board members during Thursday’s meeting they are not satisfied with the scores, and will work hard to improve them. However, Bellville  students excelled in the end of course exams, which students must pass in order to graduate.

Stein indicated that one of the issues for scoring ‘Satisfactory’ on the STAAR test is in part due to the state not giving the schools enough money to buy all new textbooks that they needed.

Stein said that there is a plan in place to improve the scores and has already presented it to the board to be reviewed.
