BELLVILLE’S EDC ASKED TO HELP WITH PAVILION RESTORATION

Bellville’s historic Turnverein Pavilion is in need of serious repairs which could initially cost over $400,000.

The Bellville Turnverein Pavilion Restoration Project has been holding events to raise funds to repair the facility, but is now asking for help from the Bellville Economic Development Corporation. A public hearing will be held at Bellville City Hall on Thursday, March 1st at 5 p.m. to discuss the project and hear the public’s comments about using tax money for the repairs. The BEDC is being asked for $50,000 initially for architect and engineering costs, and then another $300,000 to help pay for phase one of the repair project. The City of Bellville owns the pavilion.

Phase two, which would include air conditioning, is expected to cost another $595,000. A third phase would add another $300,000 to the cost. Some members of the Bellville Economic Development Corporation Board have said they understand the need for the phase one repair portion of the project, but are unsure about spending more for the additional phases. The Board will hear the public’s comments at the March 1st 5 p.m. meeting at Bellville City Hall.
