BENTKE LEADS CUBETTES TO ROAD WIN OVER TOMBALL

Colleen Bentke backed up her own pitching with a two-run homer as the Brenham Cubettes picked up a huge 2-1 road win Tuesday night at Tomball.

Bentke’s two-out home run broke a scoreless tie, and would be the only runs the Cubettes (9-6/3-2) would score off Cougars’ starter Kamryn Boucher.

Maddie Weatherly led off the third inning with a base hit.  Two outs later, Bentke lined the first pitch from Boucher over the right field fence for her second home run in as many games.

In the bottom of the third, Tomball (7-5/3-2) countered with an unearned run.  With two outs, Kiana Workman doubled, then scored on a Cubette error.

Bentke would make that lead stand up the rest of the game, as she surrendered just the one unearned run on four hits, while striking out nine and didn’t walk a single batter.

Boucher was nearly as impressive, striking out four batters and issuing no walks, while scattering seven hits.

The win pulled the Cubettes into a four-way tie for second place in District 19/5A.

Brenham will be back on the road Friday, when they travel to Waller for a 6:45 game.
