BIDS FOR NEW LIBRARY RENOVATIONS BEING ACCEPTED BEGINNING TODAY

Bids for the expansion and renovation of the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library in Brenham will be opened today at City Hall at 2pm in Conference Room 2A.

The City of Brenham has 3 million dollars allocated for the rebuilding of the library, which sits at the corner of North Park and Martin Luther King Streets.  1.5 million dollars is coming from the City, and the other 1.5 million from private donations.

City officials are hoping the library bids come in much closer to the expected total than the recent bids for the new Brenham Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.  The new shelter was expected to cost about 2 million dollars, but the lowest bid was almost 3 million dollars….coming in at $2,960,000.  Brenham Police Chief Rex Phelps continues to work with the low bidder to try to bring the bid closer to what the City has on hand for the project.  Phelps is expected to report back to City Council at their April 9th meeting.
