BISD ANNOUNCES GATEWAY PROGRAM

  

The Brenham Independent School District has announced a new pilot program for gifted and talented students.

The program, called Gateway, will be put in place for the 2016-2017 school year and housed at Alton Elementary School. It will be for incoming third graders that have already been identified by the district as gifted and talented.

The program will be overseen by Suzanne Maxwell, a fourth grade teacher who has been certified to teach in their current gifted and talented program for seven years. Gateway will be an optional program for the third grade students that will allow them to advance from the current gifted and talented program, which is offered weekly, to a full-time and self-contained Gateway program.

Dr. Walter Jackson said in response to the program launch that he believes this program will provide the students an opportunity to “focus on developing leadership skills, innovation, project based learning, fine arts, and academics”.
