BISD BOARD EXPECTED TO ADOPT BUDGET & TAX RATE MONDAY

The tax rate and the budget top the agenda for Monday night’s meeting of the Brenham School Board.

A public hearing on the tax rate will be held at 5:30 in room 111 at Brenham High School.

The public hearing will then be followed by the board’s regular meeting.

The proposed tax rate is $1.12 per hundred dollars valuation—a one cent drop from the current BISD tax rate.  However, due to a drastic increase in local property values, the average homeowner will pay more in taxes.

The proposed rate would mean an increase of $102 in taxes for the average BISD home owner.  The average value of a home in the Brenham School District rose over $10,000 to just over $182,500.

The board is also expected to adopt the 2017-18 budget, with $43.1-million in revenue and $32.8-million in expenditures.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the board will hear a report on district and campus accountability report.  All campuses in the district met T.E.A. standards.

The board will also get an update on the recently concluded special session of the Texas Legislature.
