BISD BOARD TO VOTE ON SCHOOL CALENDAR THURSDAY

The Brenham School Board will vote on a proposed instructional calendar for next year very similar to this year’s when they meet Thursday night.

Interim Brenham School Superintendent Paul Aschenbeck tells KWHI that a committee of teachers and parents have unanimously chosen Thursday, June 2nd as the last day of classes in 2016.  The other option would have been ending classes on Friday, May 27th.

Just as this year, students would get four days off for the Memorial Day Weekend right before classes end.   This year Friday, May 22nd and Monday, May 25th are both school holidays, even though most working parents are only off on Monday.  This year classes end on Thursday, June 4th.

KWHI took a poll on our website, KWHI.com, in early February asking the public which end of school date they preferred for 2016.  1348 votes were cast in the survey, with an overwhelming 71 percent, 957 votes favoring Friday, May 27th as the last day for classes.  29 percent, 391 votes favored ending classes on Thursday, June 2nd.

At the time, the Brenham Administration Office told KWHI that parents who wished to comment on the proposed calendar could do so during the school board meeting when it was discussed.  Anyone with an opinion about the proposed 2015-2016 calendar is encouraged to contact one or more of the Board Members, or attend the Board Meeting Thursday night at 6 o’clock in the lecture rooms at Brenham High School.
