BISD: SCHOOLS WILL BE READY “ON TIME”

Progress continues right down to the wire on two major construction projects for the Brenham School District.

Workers at the new Alton Elementary School and at the renovation project at Brenham Middle School are feverishly trying to complete both before the first day of school, Monday, August 25th.

There have been some concerns voiced by several people that it looks as if the Middle School, in particular, may not be ready by opening day of classes.  In fact, some instructors at the Middle School have raised some doubts.

However, BISD Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Paul Aschenbeck says the workers are in the final stages of both projects and the kids will be in the buildings for classes August 25th

Aschenbeck says this will not affect next week’s open houses at the two campuses.  Parents will be able to visit their children’s classrooms as scheduled.

Both projects were part of a 26-million dollar bond issue approved by voters in 2012.

  1. From the articial Mr. Aschenbeck is quoted saying “Aschenbeck says this will not affect next week’s open houses at the two campuses. Parents will be able to visit their children’s classrooms as scheduled.”

That is untrue for BMS parents & students unless things have changed since the release of the August BISD newsletter. Parents & students of BMS students have been told we will not be able to visit the classrooms they will remain closed. We will only be able to see where they are located in the building on open house night. I feel, especially for the new 5th graders, it would make the transition to the new school easier if they were able to see inside the classrooms. There will already be 1st day jitters & worries with most kids going back. To me not knowing what’s behind the doors or how classrooms are set up will add to this especially with the kids attend a completely new school. Of course this is just my opinion. Below is BMS’ section in the BISD August Newsletter

It is hard to believe that the 2014 – 2015 school year is right around the corner, and what an exciting year it is going to be. We can’t wait to show our new and renovated facility. For those of you who have passed by, it may not look like we will be ready, but by the time the students arrive on August 25th we will be ready with open arms and smiling faces.
Open house for our students will be Wednesday, August 20th from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. At that time, parents will be able to pick up schedules, put money in lunch accounts, and sign up for bus transportation. Parents and students will be able to meet their child’s teachers, locate their classrooms, and tour the building. Due to teachers needing additional time to prepare classrooms for the start of school, all classroom doors will remain closed for the evening.
If you need to visit the school office prior to open house, please contact the school office to get directions and assistance on where to park and where to enter the building. The school office can be reached at 979-277-3845.
The school supply list for the upcoming school year is available at local stores and on the Brenham ISD website.
