BISHOP & DICKERSON ON COLLEGE HALL OF FAME BALLOT

A former Blinn Buccaneer All-American and a Sealy-native are among the candidates on this year’s ballot for the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame.

This year’s ballot includes former Buccaneer and Kansas State star Michael Bishop and former SMU star and Sealy-native Eric Dickerson.

Bishop, a native of Willis, helped lead the Buccaneers to back-to-back NJCAA National Championships in 1995 and 1996.  The Buccaneers were 24-0 in Bishop’s two seasons.

He threw for a combined 2,684 yards and 27 touchdowns in two seasons, while rushing for 652 yards and seven scores.

At Kansas State, he was runner up for the Heisman Trophy in 1998, he threw for 2,844 yards and 23 touchdowns, while rushing for 748 yards and 14 touchdowns.  He led the Wildcats to an 11-2 record and the Big 12 North Division Championship.

Bishop was drafted in the seventh-round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

Dickerson, who led the Sealy Tigers to the 1978 State Championship, was a unanimous First Team All-American and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1982 at Southern Methodist University.

He was twice named the Southwest Conference Player of the Year (1981 & 1982).  In four seasons, Dickerson rushed for a SWC record 4,450 yards on 790 carries (5.6 yd. avg.) and 47 touchdowns.

Dickerson went on to a Hall-of-Fame (1999) NFL career, rushing for 13,259 yards and 90 touchdowns in 11 seasons, mostly with the Rams and Colts.  He holds the NFL record for most rushing yards in a single season with 2,105 in 1984.

Two former Brenham Cubs are in the College Football Hall of Fame: Roosevelt Leaks (inducted 2005) and Wilson Whitley (inducted 2007).

  1. Dat Nguyen is a no brainer to be in the hall of fame! He was great football player and a class act off the field!
