BLINN ASSOCIATIONS DONATE TO BRAZOS 4-H SPORTSMAN CLUB

The Blinn College Alumni & Friends Association and Buccaneer Lettermen Association recently presented checks to the Brazos 4-H Sportsman Club.

The Brazos 4-H Sportsman Club, a 4-H shotgun program that promotes shooting sports activities among youngsters, provided the facility and volunteer assistance for the annual Clay Shootout that raises money for academic scholarships and athletic equipment at Blinn College.

The Alumni & Friends and Lettermen associations each donated $1,000 to the Brazos 4-H Sportsman Club. This year, the Alumni & Friends and Lettermen associations raised over $65,000 at the Clay Shootout. Next year’s event is set for April 6, 2018.

“Without this group, we would not be able to raise the funds that we do and the event would not run as smoothly,” said Kyle Merten, Director of Resource Development and Alumni Relations. “It is just a good way for us to give back to an organization that helps us out.”

Over the last three years, the Alumni & Friends and Lettermen associations have hosted the Clay Shootout at the Boswell Porter 4-H Shooting Range, a private range for the Brazos 4-H Sportsman Club. In addition, the organization provides volunteer support prior to and during the Clay Shootout.

The donation will be used for maintenance of the Boswell Porter 4-H Shooting Range and to help defray costs for the kids involved in the 4-H shotgun program.

“This year we are focused on giving to the community through volunteer time or financial contributions,” Merten said.  “We want to show that we not only are giving to the College, but we are doing things for the community throughout our service area.”  Story and photo courtesy of Blinn College.
