BLINN BOARD ACCEPTS PRESIDENT NOLTE’S RETIREMENT

The Blinn College Board of Trustees meet in a brief but tense special meeting Monday afternoon. Blinn President Harold Nolte read a brief statement announcing his retirement effective January 31st. Board President Douglas Borchardt and other members of the board thanked Nolte for his service. Board member Atwood Kenjura noted that the college was dealing with student discipline issues when Nolte took office and he thanked him for his work on those problems as well as the growth Blinn has seen during his tenure.

After the acknowledgments, the board immediately went into closed session to discuss the College President’ office. After about 40 minutes in closed session, the board went back into open session, but took no action regarding Nolte or the search to find a successor. They did approve the Blinn administration to negotiate a contract with Arkitex Studio for design and construction services for improvements to the Bryan campus including the new office space on Texas Avenue.

After Board President Borchardt adjourned the meeting, he was informed that the board had not officially voted to accept Nolte’s retirement. Borchardt immediately reconvened the board and a vote was taken accepting the resignation, with new board member Richard Powell abstaining.
