BLINN BOARD APPROVES $75,000 WORKFORCE NEEDS ANALYSIS FOR RELLIS CAMPUS

The Blinn College Board of Trustees welcomed a new Brazos County representative, then approved a $75,000 request for a workforce needs analysis in partnership with The Texas A&M University System Tuesday during a meeting hosted at the Blinn-Bryan Campus.

The meeting’s business began with the swearing-in of Trustee Tammy Spohn, who was appointed to the seat by the Brazos County Commissioners Court in January. Her term runs through Nov. 30, 2017.

One of Spohn’s first actions as a Blinn trustee was to join her peers in approving a request from The Texas A&M System to engage Parthenon-EY to perform a regional workforce needs analysis. The report will assess the workforce training needs in Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, and Washington counties, and identify in-demand program offerings, including non-credit training, certificates, associate, and bachelor’s degrees, for the new RELLIS Campus. Blinn’s portion of the $225,000 study will be $75,000.

In December, The Texas A&M System, the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), and Blinn announced a Memorandum of Understanding outlining their partnership to meet Brazos County’s growing demand for workforce training programs. Per that agreement, TEEX and Blinn will work together to provide training for the targeted occupations identified specifically by the Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley Board and as confirmed by each institution’s market research related to training needs in the Brazos Valley, and will work together to identify Texas Workforce Commission Skills Development Fund grants appropriate for training delivery.

In other business, the board heard a report from Dr. James Hallmark, Texas A&M System Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. James K. Nelson, Texas A&M System Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director of Special Academic Initiatives, regarding the development of academic initiatives at the RELLIS Campus.

The board also authorized the administration to negotiate and award a professional services agreement with Terracon Consultants, Inc. for materials testing services related to Blinn’s construction of an academic facility at the RELLIS Campus, and to negotiate with The Texas A&M System for the construction-phase utility services during construction of the RELLIS facility.
