BLINN BOARD ORDERS GENERAL ELECTION FOR THREE TRUSTEE POSITIONS

The Blinn College Board of Trustees ordered a May 6, 2017, general election for three trustee positions during its regular meeting Tuesday.

The board ordered a May 6, 2017, general election for Precinct Positions 2 and 3, which will serve full six-year terms, and At-Large Position 1, to serve the remaining two years of an unexpired term. Precinct 2 is represented by Douglas Borchardt, who has served on the board since 2010, and Precinct 3 is represented by Teddy Boehm, who has served since 2013. Charles Moser was appointed to At-Large Position 1 in 2015.

The board authorized College administrators to enter into an election services contract with Washington County, and adopted agreements with the City of Brenham, Brenham Independent School District, and Burton Independent School District for a joint election. The joint election and facilities use agreements limit duplicated efforts and minimize election expenses for each entity.

In the event of multiple candidates for any Blinn board seat, a drawing to determine the order of candidates on the ballot will take place at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, on the third floor of the Blinn College-Brenham Campus Administration Building, located at 802 Green Street in Brenham.

The filing period for the May 6 general election is Jan. 18 – Feb. 17.

In other business, the board a $100,000 gift from Barbara and Richard Powell to be used to enhance the academic experience for Blinn students. In addition to Trustee Richard Powell’s service on the Board of Trustees, Barbara and Richard Powell previously donated $15,000 to establish scholarships benefitting Blinn students, and recently gifted an additional $5,000 to that scholarship fund.

“On behalf of Blinn College and the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Barbara and Richard Powell for their support of Blinn College students,” Board President David Sommer said. “This gift reflects their generosity and commitment to higher education, and will benefit Blinn students for generations to come.”
