BLINN BOARD TO ACT ON PROPOSED SETTLEMENT IN SANDERS V. BLINN COLLEGE

The Blinn Board of Trustees will be going into an executive session during their special meeting today (Tuesday) to discuss a proposed settlement in the Sanders vs. Blinn College case.

Back in May of 2015 Nicoloe Sanders filed a lawsuit against Blinn due to an incident in February when she says she was told by an administrator that she would need special permission to display a gun rights sign and collect signatures for her student group on campus.

Sanders filed a First Amendment lawsuit against Blinn—claiming the restriction of her “free speech”.   The group, Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, assisted Sanders in filing the federal lawsuit.

The board will reconvene into open session to take action on the proposed settlement that was discussed in the executive session.

The Blinn board is expected award a guaranteed maximum price to Collier Construction for the Doyle Coatney Athletic Training facility.  The new facility will be built adjacent to the campus tennis courts and will hold multiple indoor batting cages.  It will not only serve Blinn's baseball and softball teams, but also the general public.

The Blinn Board of Trustees will meet at 12:00pm noon today (Tuesday) on the third floor of the Administration building at 802 Green Street.
