BLINN CAMPUS ENROLLMENT DOWN / DISTANCE LEARNING UP

Enrollment on each of the Bliinn College campuses is down again this spring as students turn increasingly to distance learning. With the distance learning enrolment added in, Blinn’s total enrollment for the spring semester rose 1.9 percent over last spring.  Enrollment on the Brenham campus fell 8.3 percent to 2,027 students.  The Bryan campus enrollment dropped 2.2 percent to 11,804 student.  Enrollment in Blinn’s Distance Learning Program increased 36.9 percent this spring for a total of 1,921 students.  The Distance Learning Program allows students to enroll in fully online courses or “blended” courses, which utilize a combination of face-to-face and online instruction and minimize the need for travel to and from campus.

Blinn’s districtwide enrollment climbed to 17,876 students – up from 17,541 last spring. Contact hours – the number of hours students spend with their instructors – dipped a half percent. State funding is determined by contact hours.  Blinn’s Dual Credit Program, which allows high school student to attend Blinn classes, saw a 19.9 percent increase in enrollment.
