BLINN CLAY SHOOTOUT RAISES $53,000

Proceeds benefit student scholarships and athletic equipment

The Blinn College Alumni & Friends Association and Alumni Lettermen Association raised $53,000 to benefit student scholarships and athletic equipment at Friday’s second annual Clay Shootout.

Approximately 100 volunteers and 228 participants braved cold and rainy conditions in support of Blinn College students. Fifty-seven teams participated, surpassing organizers’ goal to attract 50 teams.

“We could not have raised these funds for Blinn students without the support of the entire community,” said Dr. Kyle Merten, alumni relations director. “The Alumni & Friends Association, the Alumni Lettermen Association, and all our volunteers were crucial to making this an event to be proud of. We could not have achieved this success without the support of all our sponsors, especially LaRoche Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac, which underwrote the event.”

The team of Justin Hejl, Russell Schrader, Allen Joiner and Jackie Baumann won the competition with 347 points, while Zeth Smith, Brendan Bligh, Lenny Kirts and Brian Eben placed second with 284. Tyler Davison, David Chandler, Jerime Johnson and J.R. King placed third with 260 points.

Blinn’s Alumni & Friends Association and Alumni Lettermen Association maintain contact with former students, encourage support for and participation in the College’s educational, cultural, athletic and social programs, encourage student recruitment and assist the College in achieving its goals and objectives.
