BLINN COLLEGE ANNOUNCES TWO NEW MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

The Blinn College Foundation and the Division of Visual & Performing Arts have established two new scholarships for music majors interested in studying piano.

John Roberts of San Antonio and Kenneth Crockett Long of Dallas donated the funds for the scholarships, each of which last two years. One awards the recipient $1,500 per semester and the other is $500 per semester.

“We are very proud of our students’ accomplishments and look forward to recruiting some of the best students in these fields,” said Dr. Marcelo Bussiki, dean of Visual & Performing Arts. “One of the division’s priorities is to increase recruiting, and scholarships are a major portion of the recruiting process.”

To be eligible for the scholarships, students must have a 2.0 grade-point average, study piano and demonstrate need of financial assistance. Scholarship recipients will accompany some College performances.

Blinn offers a variety of scholarships, including more than 220 endowed scholarships; T-STEM scholarships for high-achieving, full-time students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math; valedictorian and salutatorian scholarships; Hallstein-Board of Trustees scholarships for students in the top 5 percent of their Texas high school graduating class; University Interscholastic League scholarships, fine arts scholarships and exemplary scholarships for Brenham campus students who graduated high school with at least a 3.0 grade-point average and take a minimum of 12 credit hours. The Blinn Foundation encourages donors to establish scholarships that can be distributed during the same semester. Donations of any amount are accepted at the Foundation.

The Department of Music consistently places more students in the Texas Community College All-State Band than any other community college. Many Blinn students also participate in the Texas Community College All-State Choir and Jazz Ensembles. For more information on the Department of Music, visit: www.blinn.edu/vpa/music.html.

More than 4,000 students are enrolled in Blinn’s Division of Visual & Performing Arts, which offers programs in architecture, arts, communication studies, music and theatre.
