BLINN COLLEGE BANDS COMBINE FOR PERFORMANCES

Blinn College’s jazz band, percussion ensemble, steel drum band, wind symphony and symphonic band will combine for three free musical performances beginning this evening (Thursday).

The jazz band will perform at 7:00pm tonight (Thursday), followed by the percussion ensemble/steel drums performance at 7:00pm Saturday. The final band concert featuring the wind symphony and symphonic band will be at 5:00pm Sunday, May 1st. All performances will be held at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center in Brenham.

The jazz band performance will feature a variety of musical pieces as well as a classic selection titled “Misty,” by Erroll Garner. The performance will include a trombone feature titled, “It’s Not Polite to Point.”

The percussion ensemble and steel drum band performance will include choreography, and some parts of the show will be similar to the Broadway show, “Stomp.” The performance will feature a snare drum solo performance by Todd Quinlan, music professor and department head, with a percussion ensemble accompaniment.

The final band performance on May 1 will feature the wind symphony and symphonic band. The wind symphony will perform a culmination of the recruiting tour it has showcased at high schools across the state, and the performance will count as the students’ final exam. There will also be a clarinet concerto performed by Jill Stewart, instrumental music coordinator.
