BLINN COLLEGE NAMES EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT/SAFETY AND RISK MANAGER

  

Blinn College has named Dr. William Griffith, former Chief of Police for the City of Keller Police Department and a veteran of 27 years in emergency management and law enforcement, its new Emergency Management/Safety and Risk Manager.

As Emergency Management/Safety and Risk Manager, Griffith will be responsible for Blinn’s emergency and risk management programs, and will serve as one of Blinn’s primary contacts with federal, state, and local emergency response groups. The Emergency Management/Safety and Risk Manager also administers the Blinn Alert System, which allows Blinn to rapidly communicate campus-related emergency notifications to students, faculty, and staff via text message, automated phone calls, and email.

Griffith began his law enforcement career in 1973 with the City of Arlington Police Department, where he reached the rank of lieutenant. While with the City of Arlington, Griffith drafted the city’s disaster and emergency response plans, earned expert certification within several areas of forensic science investigations, and served as a member of the police special weapons and tactics unit, where he reached command status.

While Griffith served as Keller’s Chief of Police, the community grew from approximately 8,500 citizens to more than 26,000. During an approximately six-month fire chief vacancy, Griffith served as Director of Public Safety, which included oversight of police, fire, and emergency medical services totaling approximately 70 personnel.

Between 2006 and 2011, Griffith served as a high school teacher at Southlake Carroll and Decatur high schools, and provided law enforcement consulting services in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Most recently, Griffith was an associate professor at East Texas Baptist University, where he was training coordinator of the peace officer training program, served on the campus security committee, and provided faculty and staff training in regard to emergency management.

Griffith holds a Bachelor of Science in biology and a Master of Science in chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of North Texas. He is an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Texas Police Chiefs Association.
