BLINN HOLDS RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY PINNING CEREMONY
Nineteen graduates of Blinn College’s rigorous Radiologic Technology Program were recognized Friday, May 5, during a pinning ceremony on the Blinn-Bryan Campus.
Program graduates learn a multitude of imaging methods, and develop extensive knowledge and understanding of the human body for comprehensive patient care inside the classroom with state-of-the art technology and in healthcare facilities. They also must have an in-depth understanding of medical informatics, computers, medical physics, and radiobiology.
Approximately 20 students are accepted to the program each year based on market demand. Limited enrollment ensures a quality learning experience including hands-on training in local healthcare facilities.
The Spring 2017 graduating class includes: Allison Alford (Caldwell), Amy Brown (Grapeland), Emily Butler (Bay City), Montserrat Calvo (Bryan), Andrew Charbula (Victoria), William Chovanec (Brenham), Jared Ensign (Bryan), Ashley Hayes (College Station), John Hiebert (College Station), Raegan Jackson (Waco), Becky Merkin (Dallas), Altaf Momin (College Station), Amelia Moore (Grapeland), C.J. Outland (Irving), Cameron Parks (College Station), Angel Perez (Freeport), Anne Santos (Laguna, Philippines), Suzanne Schroeder (Austin), and Jamie Taylor (La Grange).
Within two weeks of beginning the program, students begin clinical rotations at local healthcare facilities across the Brazos Valley and surrounding areas as part of their coursework. At clinical sites, students are evaluated daily by their clinical instructors regarding their understanding of radiologic technology, willingness to learn, professionalism and patient care.
With an Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology, students can earn a starting salary around $35,000. With additional training and education, a graduate can significantly increase their earnings by specializing in computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, among various other post-primary pathways. The program has a 100 percent registry exam pass rate and job placement rate since 1994.
Blinn’s Division of Health Sciences, based at the Texas A&M Health Science Center, offers associate degree nursing, dental hygiene, emergency medical services, fire science, physical therapist assistant, radiologic technology, surgical technology, veterinary technology, and vocational nursing programs designed to train students for high-demand healthcare professions.
