BLINN HONOR SOCIETY CHAPTER RECOGNIZED AMONG TOP 30 INTERNATIONALLY

Blinn College’s Beta Alpha chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society recently placed among the top 30 chapters in the world at the PTK International Convention April 6-8 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Beta Alpha chapter, based on the Blinn-Brenham Campus, was judged on its college project and honors in action project. The college project was a mentoring program set up at the College to help all students. For the honors in action project, the chapter organized a student forum gathering input regarding the implementation of campus carry at Blinn in accordance with Senate Bill 11.

“We were just expecting to do well in the state of Texas,” said Chelsea Reimer, Chapter President. “They announced the top 50 projects and we were shocked.”

Blinn placed in the top 50 in college project and top 30 overall against approximately 1,300 PTK chapters. More than 6,000 people attended the International Convention.

“Our goal is to keep this positive momentum going for years to come,” Reimer said. “The challenge is that we have so much turnover with our officers.”

The Beta Alpha chapter plans to expand the mentoring program in the upcoming school year and help students write essays for scholarships.

The international convention results come after 11 Beta Alpha chapter students and advisors were inducted into the District 5 Hall of Honor at the 2017 Texas Regional Phi Theta Kappa Convention in Corpus Christi.

After being dormant for 10 years, the Beta Alpha chapter was given the Milestone Award for reinvigorating student participation at the Texas Convention.
