BLINN HOSTS AMERICAN BRAHMAN BREEDERS ASSOCIATION

Some of the nation’s leading cattle experts recently visited the Blinn College-Brenham campus for the American Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA) judging seminar at the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex.

During the seminar, which took place August11th-13th, attendees earned certification as Brahman cattle judges. This is the second consecutive year that Blinn has hosted the event.

Doug Pierce, and agricultural sciences professor, says that this event provides a great opportunity for some of the world’s leading cattle experts to share their knowledge and see what Blinn College offers.

Participants received lessons in evaluating and describing cattle. Panelists Bob Hudgins, Dr. Jim Sanders and Milton Charanza each instructed and certified participants at the seminar.

The American Brahman Breeders Association was founded in 1924 as the official breed registry of American Brahman cattle in the United States. It original mission was to maintain parentage and ownership records of American Brahman cattle. Through the years, the organization has grown to provide an array of member services, educational opportunities and programs. Internationally recognized as a leading beef cattle association, ABBA offers a wide array of programs to assist the profitability of its members.

Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program enrolls approximately 800 students and is roughly four times the size of any other two-year agricultural program in the state. Blinn offers agricultural science classes on all of its campuses, with the Rankin Complex as the program’s hub.

Blinn also offers extracurricular education activities in the area of livestock judging, agriculture club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, horticulture and agriculture sciences.
