BLINN IMROVISATION GROUP PERFORMING THURSDAY

The Blinn College-Brenham Campus improvisation troupe “Slaphappy” will perform its Fall improvisation show at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7 o’clock.

Blinn’s improvisation troupe is a cross between Seinfeld, Comedy Sportz Houston, and William Shakespeare. “Slaphappy” is comprised of approximately 12 members of Delta Psi Omega, the National Theatre Honor Fraternity for community college students, and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, a membership organization which aims to advance the skills and knowledge of theatre.

Blinn-Brenham Theater Director Brad Nies says, “They are going to be doing a lot of really fun improvisation games, improvisation work, and getting the audience involved. It is a lot of fun, and we have had a really good audience response to it.”

Led by sophomore Caleb Wyrick, improvisation troupe manager, Slaphappy has a style that’s always challenging and never stale, and will rely heavily on audience participation, similar to “Whose Line is it Anyway.”   Nies says, “The audience gets to offer suggestions as far as where something should take place or how it should take place, so the audience really does get involved.”

This is the Blinn Theatre Arts Program’s third year presenting Slaphappy. The Spring show is set for Feb. 15, 2018. Thursday night’s 7 o’clock performance at the O’Donnell Center is free.
