BLINN INDUCTS 21 STUDENTS INTO NURSING HONOR SOCIETY

The Blinn College chapter of Alpha Delta Nu recently inducted 21 students at the College’s Health Science Center campus.

Alpha Delta Nu is the official honor society of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN), the leading advocate agency dedicated to enhancing the quality of associate degree nursing education, strengthening the professional role of associate degree nurses and promoting the futures of associate degree nurses in the midst of healthcare changes.

Blinn’s Beta Sigma chapter is the second chapter of the honor society to incorporate in Texas. To be accepted, students must carry at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in the College’s highly-regarded Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program and sponsor one community educational or recruitment project.

The two-year ADN program prepares students for a nursing career and for transfer to a bachelor degree program at a four-year university. Based at the Texas A&M Health Science Center in Bryan, Blinn’s faculty works closely with students in a simulated laboratory and in clinical settings.

“The students’ eagerness to enhance their educational experience as well as their community makes Alpha Delta Nu a wonderful organization,” said Darla Forsberg, co-founder and advisor of the organization. “In the midst of rigorous coursework, they find the time to maintain stellar grades and take on projects whole-heartedly.”

Nursing students spend at least two days per week in clinical rotations, in addition to lab and lecture time. Most students spend 15 to 24 hours each week in scheduled program activities and 30 hours or more per week for study and preparation.

Students who complete the program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination have a job placement rate between 97 to 100 percent and are qualified for a wide array of nursing positions, including pediatric, geriatric, hospice, school and clinical nursing. New graduates can expect to earn over $52,000 per year.

“Alpha Delta Nu provides a phenomenal outlet for hard-working nursing students to be recognized for their academic achievements,” said club president Angela Emmott. “In addition to challenging coursework, we have the opportunity to take on projects that connect us to our colleagues and the community.”

Inductees include: Julie Black (Livingston), Carrie Bollinger (Bryan), Rachel Bosley (Franklin), Sylvia Calhoun (Anderson), Angela Emmott (College Station), Helen Ferenz (Houston), Gabriela Gutierrez (Bryan), Chloe Hamilton (Sugar Land), Heather Hartfield (Giddings), Sherry Henderson (College Station), Christine Howard (College Station), Jennifer Jenkins (College Station), Kara Mason (College Station), Grace Mills (College Station), Ann-Marie Morrison (College Station), Jordan Reedy (The Woodlands), Sarah Roberts (Tyler), Justin Shaughnessy Waco), Elizabeth Soberon (College Station), Jodi Stover (Abilene) and Christina Zarrella (Bryan).
