BLINN INDUCTS FIFTY ONE INTO PHI THETA KAPPA HONOR SOCIETY

  

The Beta Alpha chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society inducted 51 Blinn College students Tuesday in a ceremony at the College’s Brenham campus Student Center.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is recognized as the official honor society for two-year colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges. Founded in 1918, PTK promotes scholarship, leadership service and fellowship among its members. To be accepted into the program, students must carry at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) with at least 12 transferable hours.

The Beta Alpha chapter includes students from Blinn’s Brenham, Schulenburg and Sealy campuses.

“These students have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment,” said Dillon Phipps, PTK advisor and humanities instructor. “As members of Phi Theta Kappa, they now have the opportunity to apply for over $37 million in scholarships and are part of a network of more than 2.5 million scholars and leaders.”

Blinn enrolled a school-record 19,317 students last Fall and has experienced 37.5 percent growth since 2006. Students taking 30 credit hours at Blinn in 2014-15 will save approximately $4,000 in tuition compared to the average Texas public university (48.8 percent), and Blinn offers more than 220 endowed scholarships.
