BLINN INVITES PUBLIC TO INAUGURAL HEALTH SCIENCE SHOWCASE

March 8 event includes student-led tours, hands-on demonstrations, and an AirMed 12 helicopter visit

Blinn College invites the community to learn more about its renowned healthcare programs during the inaugural Health Sciences Showcase Thursday, March 8, from 5-8 p.m. at the Texas A&M Health Science Center (HSC).

Students and instructors from Blinn’s Associate Degree Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science, Health Information Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, and Bryan Campus Vocational Nursing programs will be on hand to demonstrate the basics of each profession – from the equipment they use to the techniques necessary to ensure quality, compassionate patient care.

“We are excited to give the community an opportunity to learn more about Blinn’s Division of Health Sciences and the variety of options prospective students have in the healthcare industry,” Dean of Health Sciences Tom Lescarbeau said. “Our students and faculty will lead presentations and involve our visitors in engaging hands-on activities to give them a better understanding of what we do.”

Information tables for each program will be set up in the lobby of the HSC Clinical Building I, located at 8447 Riverside Parkway (State Highway 47) in Bryan. Visitors can then proceed to the second floor to receive an in-depth look at what each program has to offer.

The kid-friendly event will feature student-led tours, hands-on demonstrations, and a site visit from an AirMed 12 helicopter. Visitors will be introduced to clinical simulation technology with Blinn’s state-of-the-art, high-fidelity mannequins, including the opportunity to participate in a mock laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed with the aid of a camera. Attendees will also have the opportunity to conduct virtual dissections in a simulated cadaver laboratory setting with Blinn’s Anatomage Table.

Free parking will be available during the event in Lot 3 on the west side of the HSC (map).

Blinn’s Division of Health Sciences, based at the Texas A&M Health Science Center, offers associate degree nursing, dental hygiene, emergency medical services, fire science, health information technology, physical therapist assistant, radiologic technology, surgical technology, and vocational nursing programs designed to quickly train students for high-demand professions.
