BLINN NAMES INTERIM VP FOR INSTRUCTION

  

Blinn College has named Dr. Joseph Kirkland its interim vice president for instruction for academic programs.

Kirkland brings more than 30 years of administrative experience, including the last five as vice president for academic affairs at Lamar State College – Orange, and more than a decade’s experience as an English instructor. As vice president for academic affairs at LSC – Orange, Kirkland oversaw the college’s instructional curriculum, administration, budget and faculty, and supervised its information technology, library and continuing education and contract training programs. As liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Kirkland played a key role in LSC – Orange’s successful reaccreditation process.

“Dr. Kirkland’s leadership skills and commitment to student success make him an outstanding selection for this role,” said Dr. Harold Nolte, Blinn College district president. “We are excited to welcome him to the Blinn family.”

Prior to his tenure at LSC – Orange, Kirkland served as dean of instruction at San Jacinto College from 1999-2003 and, after seven months in an interim role, was named vice president of instruction in June 2003.

Kirkland earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Sam Houston State University and a Ph.D. in English from Texas Christian University. A veteran, Dr. Kirkland served for six years as an officer in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Vietnam and teaching military science at Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M-Kingsville).
