BLINN NAMES MORE THAN 2100 BLINN STUDENTS TO PRESIDENT’S SCHOLAR LIST

More than 2,100 Blinn College students were recognized for their Fall 2014 academic success, the College announced today.

Blinn named 867 students to its elite President’s Scholars List – including 489 who earned a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) for the semester – while 1,277 were named dean’s scholars. To be named a president’s scholar, students must earn a 3.75 GPA while taking at least 12 credit hours and passing all their courses. Students must attain a 3.25 GPA to earn dean’s scholar recognition.

“It is an honor for us to recognize these students for their hard work and achievement,” said Dr. Ana M. “Cha” Guzmán, interim district president. “The values they demonstrated this Fall will serve them well as they transfer to elite four-year universities and embark on exciting career opportunities.”

In September, Blinn announced a record Fall enrollment of 19,317 students. Enrollment at the College has leapt 37.5 percent since 2006.

Students taking 30 credit hours at Blinn in 2014-15 will save approximately $4,000 in tuition compared to the average Texas public university (48.8 percent), and Blinn offers more than 200 endowed scholarships.

The College’s academic transfer rate regularly ranks among the highest in the state and nation and is approximately 20 percent higher than the state average. The Texas A&M Blinn TEAM (Transfer Enrollment at A&M) Program allows selected applicants to Texas A&M University’s freshman class a unique co-enrollment opportunity with the opportunity to earn full Texas A&M admission.

The first of its kind between a major university and a community college, the initiative received the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Recognition of Excellence.
