BLINN PROFESSOR NAMED PRESIDENT OF Psi BETA

  

A Blinn College psychology professor has been named president of a national honor society in psychology for community colleges.

Dr. Katherine Wickes, Social Sciences department head for psychology, anthropology and assessment, was installed as national president of Psi Beta for 2014-15 during the recent national convention of the American Psychological Association held in Washington, D.C.

Wickes has served as advisor for the Blinn College – Bryan campus chapter of Psi Beta for nine years. She served as the southwestern regional vice president on the Psi Beta National Council in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and as president-elect in 2013-14. She will serve on the council an additional year as past president in 2015-16.

Wickes joined the Blinn faculty in 2003 and has been teaching since 1996. In 2009, she was named assistant division chair for the Division of Social Sciences on the Bryan campus. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from George Mason University, and a Master of Science and Ph.D. in psychology from Texas A&M University.

Blinn’s Division of Social Sciences offers courses in anthropology, criminal justice, geography, government, history, legal assistance, psychology and sociology.

Psi Beta is the national honor society in psychology for community colleges and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Psi Beta is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association and the Association of Psychological Science. Its mission is to encourage professional development and psychological literacy of all students at two-year colleges through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research and community service.  Story and photo courtesy of Blinn College.
