BLINN STUDENTS TO HOST DAY OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

AluAluBlinn College’s annual day of community service returns with a new name but the same spirit on Saturday, April 23.

The Buccaneer Big Event, formerly known as the Blinn Blitz, is a student-led community service effort spearheaded by students enrolled in the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham.

“Our goal is simply to say ‘thank you’ to the community for all it does for Blinn College and its students,” said Ashley Hermes, student success coach. “This is our opportunity to give back.”

Washington County residents and organizations can request a project through April 6 by visiting www.blinn.edu/buccaneer-big-event. Sponsors and volunteers can also register their support at the website.

Student volunteers will be provided Buccaneer Big Event T-shirts and brunch, and will share the day’s activities on social media using the hashtag #BucBigEvent.

“This event shows how the student body is coming together to help the community,” said Haley Ferguson, one of the students organizing the event. “I really hope that when the next cycle of Engineering Academy students come to Blinn in the fall, they continue to hold up the same leadership.”  Story courtesy of Blinn College.
