BLINN THEATRE ARTS PROGRAM ANNOUNCES SEASON SCHEDULE

The Blinn College Theatre Arts Program will celebrate plays written during the 1980s throughout its upcoming 2015-16 season.

“We want to celebrate the 1980s with some great plays that were written during that time,” said Bradley Nies, theatre arts director. “We will also have a musical showcase.”

The season will begin with “Steel Magnolias,” a comedy-drama about the bond between southern women in northwest Louisiana. “Steel Magnolias” will play at 7 p.m. Sept. 3-5 and 2 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center (map).

“Bunnicula,” based on the popular 1980s books by James and Deborah Howe, features the Monroe family, their pets and a peculiar bunny they found one night at a theater while watching the classic movie “Dracula.” The curtain will rise at 7 p.m. Oct. 15-17 and 2 p.m. Oct. 18 in the O’Donnell Center.

“Back to the 80s,” a musical comedy written by Neil Gooding and Stuart Smith, spotlights the decade that brought the world the Rubik’s Cube, Max Headroom and Stars Wars. The show runs at 7 p.m. Nov. 19-21 and 2 p.m. Nov. 22.

In February, Blinn will present “The Remarkable Rooming-House of Madame Le Monde” by Tennessee Williams. This little-known play was published shortly before Williams’ death in 1983 and explores the nefarious characters beneath London society. The show opens at 7 p.m. Feb. 25-27 and 2 p.m. Feb. 28 in the O’Donnell Center’s MRW Studio Theatre.

The final performance of the 2015-16 season will be the annual Theatre Arts Student Showcase, in which students present the acting and technical skills that they have acquired throughout the course of the year by directing and performing in short plays. This performance will take place April 7-8 at 7 p.m.

“We will have a little something for everyone this season,” Nies said.

Blinn’s Theatre Arts Program hosts at several performances each year in Bryan and Brenham and offers a quality educational foundation through study, application and experience.
