BLINN THEATRE GARNERS AWARD NOMINATIONS

Mr. Hyde may have been a scandalous villain in Blinn College’s recent production of “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde,” but the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival had nothing but rave reviews for the students and their performances.

Christopher Frey (Hempstead), Colleen Dougan (Brenham) and Kayla Kelly (Humble) were nominated for Irene Ryan Acting Awards and Jericka Gaskamp (Brenham) was nominated for the Meritorious Achievement Award for Stage Management. Frey portrayed Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde, Dougan played Agnes Carew and Kelly played Rebecca Moore.

The Blinn – Brenham campus Theatre Program performed T.R. Sullivan’s “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” before approximately 500 patrons Oct. 16-19 at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center. The program also hosted a pair of preview performances for approximately 300 area junior high and high school students as part of Blinn’s Service Learning Program.

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) is a national theatre program involving 18,000 students from colleges and universities nationwide that has served as a catalyst in improving the quality of college theatre in the United States. KCACTF has grown into a network of more than 600 academic institutions throughout the country, where theatre departments and student artists showcase their work and receive outside assessment by KCACTF respondents.

Irene Ryan Acting Nominations provide recognition and honor to outstanding student performers wishing to further their theater education.  Meritorious Achievement Awards are for students who go beyond and above in the collaborative process.

  1. The theatre department at Blinn is truly top-notch. I’ve seen many plays and musicals at universities and professional theatres, in Washington County and Houston, and feel I am qualified to say that the plays produced by Brad Nies and Kevin Patrick are among the best. My family is looking forward to Willy Wonka in November. And I hope they do another movie like the Frozen singalong – that was so much fun! Congratulations for those awards, and the whole department there in the O’Donnell Center.
