BLINN THEATRE KICKS OFF SPRING SEMESTER WITH ‘PYGMALION’

Audiences may just find themselves falling in love with the Blinn College – Brenham campus Theatre Arts Program’s first play of 2015.

Blinn will present “Pygmalion,” arguably George Bernard Shaw’s most popular play, Feb. 19-22 at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center. The curtain rises at 7 p.m. Feb. 19-21 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 22. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice, by calling 979-830-4024 or by emailing boxoffice@blinn.edu.

“Pygmalion” centers around a bet Professor Henry Higgins makes with a colleague that he can turn a simple flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, into an upstanding woman of society. Professor Higgins never dreamed that while teaching Eliza to be a lady the two would fall in love.

The performance will be Blinn’s entry in the Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association Play Festival.

“The production will be evaluated on its own merits to the standards of quality educational theatre,” said Brenham campus Theatre Director Bradley Nies, who is also directing the performance. “This is not a competitive contest where productions are ranked, but in the festival environment the play has the potential to be rated superior or excellent.”

Kevin Patrick serves as technical director and Jennifer Patrick is costume designer.

“Audiences will enjoy George Bernard Shaw’s classic work,” Nies said. “It is a comedy that served as the basis for ‘My Fair Lady,’ the Broadway musical based on the 1938 film.”

The Blinn Theatre Arts Program hosts at least eight performances each year on its Brenham and Bryan campuses and offers a quality educational foundation through study, application and experience. For more information, visit www.blinn.edu/theatre.html
