BLINN THEATRE TO PRESENT “REMARKABE ROOMING HOUSE”

The Blinn College-Brenham campus Theatre Arts Program will present Tennessee Williams’ final play in its upcoming production of “The Remarkable Rooming-House of Madame Le Monde.”

Shows begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25-27 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 in the MRW Studio Theater of the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center (map). Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.blinn.edu.BoxOffice, by calling 979-830-4024 or by emailing BoxOffice@blinn.edu.

The Blinn Theatre Arts Program first became familiar with the play during the 2012 Winter Symposium of the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology. After theatre director Bradley Nies researched the play, he found that Tennessee Williams wrote it shortly before his death in 1983.

This brutally honest tale centers around a man named Mint living in the attic of a rooming-house in London. Unable to use his legs, Mint uses giant hooks hanging from the ceiling to get around, and the play tells of the abuse and taunts he endures during his stay.

“While it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, this play serves as an example of Theatre of Cruelty,” Nies said. “This style of theatre was created in the early 1900s and was designed to shock audiences into confronting man’s cruelty.”

This play will be an entry in the 2016 Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association Play Festival. The TCCSTA Play Festival is designed to promote educational theatre at the community college level.

“We hope everyone comes out for a very artistic evening,” Nies said.   Story courtesy of Blinn College.
