BLINN TO HOLD INFO SESSIONS ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAM
College will host information sessions on its Brenham and Bryan campuses
Blinn College’s Criminal Justice Program invites students considering a career in law enforcement to attend an info session.
The sessions take place at 5 and 6 p.m. this evening (Tuesday), in the Blinn– Brenham campus Student Center Conference Room, and at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday), in Room 135 of the Blinn – Bryan campus Science Building.
With tracks designed for the traditional classroom or online, Blinn offers Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science and Law Enforcement Technology degrees in criminal justice, as well as a Criminal Justice Corrections certificate. Blinn also offers a Basic Peace Officer Academy certificate through its partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service Central Texas Police Academy.
Students who complete the program are eligible for a variety of local, state and federal careers, including law enforcement, investigation, corrections operation, corrections counseling, a variety of court positions, government administration and probation. Similar careers are also available through private companies.
The Criminal Justice Program also offers established internships with Brazos Valley law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Its current contemporary issues course, victimology, is taught by former College Station Police Chief Edgar Feldman, who brings more than 40 years of law enforcement experience to the course.
Criminal Justice Program instructor Janet McNutt chose to become a probation officer because of an internship she landed in a probation department. Several years later, she now teaches the internship course at Blinn.
“That class was pivotal in shaping my career, and I believe it still opens doors for students looking to land careers in the field,” McNutt said. “The Criminal Justice Program at Blinn produces high-quality students who are more than equipped to excel in the careers they select.”
