BLINN TO HOST 2016 CLAY SHOOTOUT

April 1 event raises funds for academic scholarships and athletic equipment

The Blinn College Alumni & Friends and the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen associations will host the 2016 Blinn College Clay Shootout on Friday, April 1, to raise money for academic scholarships and athletic equipment.

“By collaborating with the Lettermen and the Alumni & Friends, we did something different last year and raised $45,000 towards athletic equipment and scholarships,” said Dr. Kyle Merten, alumni relations director. “We look forward to seeing how this event will grow in 2016. We would like to have 50 teams and raise $50,000.”

The Clay Shootout will be held at the Boswell Porter 4-H Shotgun Range, located at 7676 County Rd 247 in Caldwell. Entry for a four-person team is $500, or $125 for a single shooter. Single shooters will be paired. There will be 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. flights, and the competition will be limited to the first 50 teams.

The shoot will include 50 sporting clays, including 25 trap and 25 skeet. Food will be provided throughout the day along with drinks, raffles, prizes and trophies.

Shooters must provide their own ammunition. Registration will be held one hour before shoot time, with a safety meeting 30 minutes before and awards following the last flight.

No alcohol will be allowed during the shoot. Shooters under the age of 17 must have completed their hunter’s safety certification. The Shootout underwriter is LaRoche Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac in Brenham.
