BLINN TO OFFER FREE TAXPAYER BUSINESS SEMINAR

State enforcement officer explains record requirements and taxpayer responsibilities

The Blinn College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is offering a free seminar to help business owners unlock the secrets of Texas sales tax.

The two-hour seminar will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Brenham campus Student Center located at 1007 Walter Schwartz Way (map). Michael Stegint, an enforcement officer at the Texas Comptroller’s office in Houston, will explain the proper record-keeping and filing requirements for business owners who must collect and file state sales tax. After his presentation, Stegint will answer questions from the audience.

Seats can be reserved at www.blinn.edu/sbdc.

The SBDC at Blinn College is a business consulting and training center that is part of the Texas Gulf Coast Small Business Development Center Network, which serves 32 counties in Southeast Texas. The center provides free one-on-one consulting and low-cost training seminars.

Last year, the three-person Blinn SBDC staff helped 270 clients start 12 new businesses, create 74 new jobs and obtain more than $1.4 million in business loans.

Across the country, SBDCs advise clients and guide them through the start and growth of their business, assisting in business plan development, accessing capital and identifying market opportunities. There are nearly 1,000 SBDC locations in the United States that combine to serve more than one million small businesses each year.
