BLINN TO RECOGNIZE MORE THAN 700 GRADUATES AT SPRING GRADUATION
More than 700 students will be officially recognized as Blinn College graduates Friday, May 12, during the College’s 137th commencement ceremony at Brenham High School.
The 739 students earning Blinn diplomas this month will include 259 reverse transfers. Reverse transferring allows former students who completed Blinn’s residency requirements before transferring to a four-year university to apply credits they earned at the university toward their associate degree. To check eligibility, Blinn alumni should contact their four-year institution and request that their transcript be sent to Blinn, then visit Blinn’s graduation website to complete the reverse transfer graduation application.
Blinn’s Spring Commencement will include two student speakers – Cortney Evins from the Bryan Campus and Austin Wright from the Brenham Campus.
Evins grew up in Corpus Christi and graduated from Richard King High School in 2007. She attended Texas A&M University, where she majored in entomology before working at a local animal hospital and discovering her passion for working with animals.
Evins followed that passion by enrolling in Blinn’s Veterinary Technology Program. Her goal is to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician and specialize in emergency and critical care.
Wright is a second-generation Blinn student from Spring. The Brenham Campus Student Body President for the 2016-17 academic year, Wright will attend Texas A&M University in the Fall semester, where he will major in English with the intent to attend law school.
Blinn’s academic transfer rate of 39.5 percent ranks second in the state and far exceeds the statewide average of 22.0 percent. In addition to transfer agreements with the state’s leading four-year universities, Blinn is home to pioneering co-enrollment programs such as the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM (Transfer Enrollment at A&M) Program and the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn.
According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s CollegeForAllTexans.com, out-of-district Blinn students who enrolled in 30 credit hours during the 2016-17 academic year saved thousands in tuition and fees compared to students at public universities across the state. At just $4,824 for 30 credit hours, Blinn’s out-of-district tuition and fees offered students a savings of $3,835, or 44.3 percent, compared to state residents at the average Texas public university. The average tuition and fees for Texas residents taking 30 credit hours at a public university is $8,659.
On top of the College’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, academic backgrounds and experiences. Blinn students and prospective students also can register for external scholarships and participate in grant programs.
