BLINN’S AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM HOSTS RECRUITING EVENT

It was a busy week for the Blinn College Agricultural Sciences Program, as more than 1,400 high school students saw what Blinn has to offer during a recruiting event and FFA leadership competitions in Brenham.

Blinn first worked with agriculture teachers at Brenham, Burton and Hempstead High Schools to host 40 students on Nov. 11 for an agricultural preview day. These students received a tour of the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex, met the faculty, and received sessions with enrollment services, housing, and financial aid.

Bryn Behnke, the Assistant Dean for the Division of Agricultural & Natural says the event was a trial run to get students in to attend who haven’t seen the complex and what Blinn has to offer.

The Blinn Agricultural Sciences Department is planning to host more preview days coming up in the spring.

Blinn College also hosted district and area Future Farmers of America (FFA) Leadership Development Events on Nov. 14th and Nov. 19th.  More than 1,200 students competed in

Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program offers course seating for approximately 1,100 students, making it roughly four times the size of any other two-year agricultural program in the state. Blinn offers agricultural science classes on all of its campuses, with the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex in Brenham serving as the program’s hub.

In addition to its excellence in the classroom, Blinn offers extracurricular educational activities in the areas of livestock judging, agriculture club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, horticulture and agriculture sciences.
