Severe storms moved through Bluebonnet’s service area, west to east, beginning at 2 a.m. Monday, April 27. We began experiencing power outages Monday at 2 a.m., and power was fully restored to all reported outages by 4 a.m. today.
These storms caused significant damage to our electric system. The Washington County area experienced the most damage due to high winds and lightning. High winds toppled trees and broke branches, poles cross arms and power lines. That type of damage knocks power to dozens to thousands of members and is very time-consuming to repair. Direct lightning strikes were also responsible for damage to poles, cross arms, transformers and blown fuses. Changing poles, cross arms and transformers are also time-consuming, labor-intensive repairs.
At the height of power restoration activities beginning Monday morning and lasting well into Monday night, we had about 100 employees and contractors working to restore power. Most of our employees and contractors were working in the Washington County area. We greatly appreciate our members’ patience and understanding during a very difficult day while we worked to restore their power as quickly and safely as possible.
Thank you, Bluebonnet Electric, for your quick response and dedication to restoring electrical power to our area. I know some customers had longer outages than others, but we all had our power back in a timely manner considering the wide area and severity of damage following the storm.
