A suspect is in custody, students are back in their dorms and classes are preceding as normal on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos after a pre-dawn bomb threat was called into the campus today (Tuesday).
The threat caused a partial evacuation of the campus for about four hours.
A spokesperson for the university says a non-student was detained for questioning. An estimated three hundred students were evacuated. A university police officer detained the person after he was seen smoking, which is banned on the campus. The officer said the individual’s car had what appeared to be a device with an ignition, but members of the Austin PD bomb squad determined the device was not an explosive.
The campus police department reported the threat just before two in the morning. Officials said the threat affects the area of College Inn and Comanche, on the western end of the campus. A thorough search of the area did not find a bomb and the students were then allowed to return to their dorms at six this (Tuesday) morning.
This is the second bomb threat to close this campus in less than two years. On October 18th 2012 the campus was closed due to the bomb threat to the admissions building.
