BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB HOSTS YOUTH OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

  

Students representing seven Boys and Girls Clubs from across East Texas competed Saturday for Youth of the Year.  The competition was hosted by the Washington County Boys and Girls Club.  Each of the competitors were selected by their club by an application and essay contest.  Representing Washington County were D.J. Lee in the National competition and Jayla Breedlove and Olivia Flores in the junior competition.  Oliva received second place and Jayla was awarded third place in the junior competition.

Each competitor presented a speech before a panel of judges followed by an interview.  Christian Pharr from the Champion Valley Club and Leslie Ortiz from the Salvation Army Metro Houston Club were selected to advance to the State completion.  The State competition will be held in Austin on March 21st and 22nd.
