BRAZOS CO. JAIL HOST ARANSAS CO. INMATES

  

The Brazos County Jail is home to a few more inmates than usual this weekend.

Beginning Thursday, Aransas County began transferring all of its jail inmates to the Brazos County Detention Center.  By Friday, all 104 inmates from Aransas County had been evacuated by school buses and vans to the Brazos County Jail.  Brazos and Aransas counties have a mutual aid agreement to house inmates in the event of an emergency.  Aransas County is paying $54 per day for each inmate, and providing staffing to supervise them.

The inmates could remain in Brazos County for a few days, or their stay could be extended should the Aransas County Jail sustain damage from Hurricane Harvey.
