BRAZOS CO. JAIL INMATE DIES OF APPARENT NATURAL CAUSES

  

An inmate at the Brazos County Jail has died of what appears to be natural causes.

Melvin Earl Jones was arrested earlier this month on a charge of Assault of a Public Servant.

Jones alerted detention officers around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, that he needed to see a doctor and was taken to the jail’s medical department.

While in a holding cell he collapsed, going into cardiac arrest and was given CPR. He was immediately transported to St. Joseph by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead just after 7:30 a.m.

The Texas Rangers and the Brazos County Sheriff’s office are conducting independent investigations…standard procedures following a death in custody.
