A Bryan man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for dealing cocaine to an undercover police officer.

Anthony Clay, 33, was convicted last Friday by a Brazos County Jury for delivery of a controlled substance. Prosecutors say he delivered 9.04 grams of cocaine to the undercover officer for $420.00.

At the trial, Clay was identified as a mid-level drug dealer in the Brazos County. He had been sentenced to prison twice previously. He was convicted once in 2004 for delivery of a controlled substance and sentenced to 4 years. He was convicted again in 2013 for assault of a public servant. Clay repeatedly kicked a police officer and was subsequently sentenced to 6 years in prison.

After the jury’s guilty verdict, Clay pleaded true to his previous convictions, which resulted in the minimum punishment being increased to 25 years in prison.

  1. Mr. Clay has demonstrated issues with complying with drug laws as well as assaulting a public servant. The article does not say if he was under the influence of drugs when he assaulted someone. Thirty years seems like a very long sentence for an apparently small time drug dealer. That’s thirty years we taxpayers will be paying for his incarceration. If a dealer is determined to also be a user, it would be more beneficial for him and taxpayers if our prison system had a drug program he/she was required to participate in at the begin-
ning of his/her sentence and required participation in follow up until their sentence was completed. Hopefully job training is offered and assistance in obtaining a job once they are discharged because it is very difficult for felons to obtain work when they get out. Without a support system and a job to support themselves they usually end up back in the system. Our goal should be to to try to help these people get help for their addiction and become a productive citizen….not just to punish them.

  2. Most of these guys do make a deal not only to tell where they got the drugs but also to make controlled buys so the police can arresst the dealer. And the police are pretty good at this. The problem seems to be that there are a whole lot of drug dealers out there and not enough dope cops. Furthermore , the esteemed president of the United States keeps signing executive orders to put these criminals back on the street. Hey, oily f you sell drugs and get caught 3 times, maybe we use capital punishment. Glad to see this guy gone for now

  3. Good job! We rarely hear about Dealers being caught. Wouldn’t it be nice if people sent to court for possession were required to tell who they bought it from, or face jail time.
