BRENHAM CISTERNS TO BE FEATURED ON ‘THE SOUND OF TEXAS’

The Sound of Texas will feature a local archeological landmark.

Tumbleweed Smith will be speaking with Sharon Brass about the Brenham cisterns during the segment today (Tuesday).

The cisterns were built in the late 1800's to store rainwater for public firefighting. Private cisterns were also abundant throughout early Washington County, used for bathing, drinking and cooking.

The large system of public cisterns in early Brenham was a rarity. No other Texas cities were known to install public cisterns, or to provide public services so early.

Broadcasting for more than a quarter of a century, The Sound of Texas is one of the longest running syndicated radio programs in Texas.

Tune in to KWHI 1280 to hear The Sound of Texas, Monday through Friday at 7:20 a.m.
