BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES GRANTS

  

Brenham City council approved several grants during their meeting this (Thursday) afternoon.   The council approved a $30,000 grant from TxDOT as part of the Routine Airport Maintenance Program.  The grant will be matched by the city in this year’s budget to provide $60,000 in maintenance to the Brenham Airport.

The council also approved a $19,000 grant from TxDOT for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.  The funds will be used to pay overtime for officers enforcing speed limits on US 290 through Brenham.  Brenham has participated in the program over the last several years.  Council also approved an Internal Ethics and Compliance Program that is a requirement for the STEP grant.

Council made several Proclamations Thursday:

They proclaimed September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

They proclaimed September 17th through 23rd as U.S. Constitution Week.

They proclaimed September 5th through October 19th as the period for Washington County Reed.  This year’s book is News of the World by Paulette Jiles.

And they proclaimed this school year as the 40th Anniversary for the First Baptist Church School.

The council went into executive session to discuss possible financial or other incentives for a business prospect.  A business has approached the city about locating in or near Brenham.
